Salisbury University Athletic Director Michael Vienna, who has been SU’s AD for 26 years, has resigned to take the AD job at Emory University.

“I am eternally grateful to everyone whom I have had the incredible pleasure of working with for the past 26 years at SU,” Vienna said. “On a daily basis I stand in awe of the remarkable accomplishments of so many individuals who have made us A Maryland University of National Distinction.”
During his time at SU, the Sea Gulls added four varsity sports (swimming, women’s soccer and men’s and women’s indoor track and field) while winning 17 National Championships and 155 Capital Athletic Conference Championships.
Vienna’s resignation comes just weeks after Men’s Basketball Head Coach Josh Merkel resigned to take a job at Randolph-Macon College.
Vienna will stay at SU until July, and the University will name an interim director while a full search for a replacement AD is completed.
