SOAP’s spring semester movie schedule

Staff Writer

“Free” is a word college students love to hear, especially when it comes to hit movies.

Drawing off of the program’s success in past semesters, the Student Organization for Activity Planning (SOAP) has revealed their film schedule for the spring semester.

Each film, usually a recent release, is free for Salisbury University students, and are shown on campus.

Jennifer Isacoff, a sophomore and the films chair for SOAP, added that there are usually always t-shirts, food and other prizes at each film in order to add even more incentive to attend.

SOAP has made free movies an integral part of the events they organize each semester because they give students the opportunity to enjoy recent releases with their friends or in a larger group setting without any cost at all.

Isacoff was thrilled to share the upcoming schedule. She mentioned that she is personally most excited for May, when she will be organizing a showing of the franchise hit “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”

Other movies of note include a showing of “Ride Along 2” on the Quad and a special premiere of “Batman vs. Superman.”

This semester follows a series of popular movies shown in the fall, which were also offered free of charge. Isacoff said she was a fan of all of the movies she hosted, noting that the films with the largest turnout included “Trainwreck,” “Jurassic World,” “Ted 2” and “Minions”.

SOAP has already aimed to please crowds for the spring when they showed “Mad Max: Fury Road” in the first week of the semester, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part Two” on Feb. 12 and “Straight Outta Compton” on Feb. 17.

Despite the unusual start to the semester the first two movies managed to pull large crowds, and SOAP’s committee said they are optimistic to see similar numbers at future movies.

For those interested in going out to some of these free movies this semester, dates to mark on the calendar include:

  • March 9, 8 p.m.: “Creed,” Devilbiss 123
  • March 24, time TBD: “Batman vs. Superman,” location TBD
  • April 15, time TBD: “Ride Along 2,” on the Quad
  • May 6, 8 p.m.: “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Holloway Hall
