Wingin’ It to open on St. Patrick’s Day

Staff Writer

Unlike most college towns, Salisbury hasn’t had a wing place to call its own. Sure, there’s a Buffalo

Wild Wings in north Salisbury, but the twenty minute drive and high prices keep most students from eating there.

On St. Patrick’s Day, all of that will change.

Wingin’ It, Salisbury’s new wing restaurant, will open up across from Seagull Square where University Tire was previously located. The restaurant will be part of a larger complex, which includes a bar called Hoppers Tap House and a pizza place called DeNizza Wood Fired Pizza.

Wingin’ It was the idea of SU professor Dr. Michael Scott and his friend Dr. Kraig Stetzer, a local dentist who knew that wing restaurants are the perfect places to eat out with friends.

After going to school at the University of South Carolina where he and his friends spent many nights eating wings, Scott knew that Salisbury needed a wing restaurant of its own. So, he and Dr. Stetzer decided to make it happen.

Keeping the average college student’s low budget in mind, Scott and Dr. Stetzer set out to bring the community a menu that is affordable, but still offers enjoyable food.

“We are really trying to deliver high quality and good value,” Scott said.

Wings may be their claim to fame, but they’re not the only thing you’ll find at Wingin’ It. Any of the items on the menu, including chicken tender and shrimp salad sandwiches, can be tossed in one of the 15 different wing sauces available.

Wingin’ It will offer hand-cut fries available in one pound and two pound sizes. There will be a variety of appetizers, including onion rings and fried macaroni and cheese.

For people who are looking for healthier options, there will be grilled wings and a variety of salads.
The restaurant’s founders said they’re most excited for the Salisbury sports seasons.

With the new stadium being finished this spring, Wingin’ It will be a great place to get food for tailgating or post-game celebrations. Right on the edge of campus, and only a short walk from Sea Gull Stadium, the restaurant will likely draw crowds.

Because the owners work in Salisbury, they want the restaurant to be a positive addition to the community. Wingin’ It is committed to bringing students and other community members a fun place to meet up with friends and hang out.

“We want to be SU’s wing restaurant,” Scott said. “We want to be part of the SU community.”
